OPERATIONAL SUPPORT AND EQUIPMENT SECTION
The Head of the Department is responsible for and in charge of the responsibilities relating to the technical and operational support of the Department, and to the proper operation and effective management of the technical equipment. The Section is subdivided into primary support responsibilities, which run through the entire Department of Lands and Surveys. These start with the supervision of the Central Help Desk, and they expand to the Land Information Centre, both in the District Land Offices and all the buildings of the Department. Officers from each building have already been designated as Technical Support Officers, assigned with specific tasks and responsibilities.
The Central Help Desk provides daily telephone support to the users of the LIS and technical support on a nationwide basis, carries out and reports on all equipment movement procedures, submits reports on the disposal of old equipment, participates in moving to new buildings procedures by designing networks and participating in meetings, carries out continuous checks on the correct recording in and maintenance of equipment registers and ensures the proper maintenance of the equipment. At the same time, it provides technical support to personal computers and workstations/sunrays, supports the proper functioning of the servers and other similar products, periodically services other equipment and is in charge the recording of the needs for new equipment, the budgets and the proper allocation of equipment.
The next level of technical support is handled by the Secondary Support group at the Land Information Centre, that is by Officers of the Department of IT Services in cooperation with Officers of the Department of Lands and Surveys, which, in addition to their duties, are responsible for the maintenance and proper operation of the central systems and subsystems, and the performance and monitoring of the back-up systems.
